can't sleep...
gyo's great. is there any word when the next volume's out? i thought that was very very entertaining.
but yeah, the book to get this week looks like deep sleeper. i enjoyed the coffin though, or huddleston's art in general.
the bristol board jungle art looks better than i'd expect hearing its students. i've picked up student anthologies at san diego before, and ... that actually looks much nicer than i've seen... oh wait, savannah, its from that animation college? isn't there an animation college in savannah? i don't remember... maybe i'm thinking of sheridan...
but more importantly: the new damon hurd book's really about a "lifetime pact between friends who pledge to go to the opening night of every single Star Trek movie." really? i didn't like the last book, the uncle jeff, but ... yeah, its really about that? is it nonfiction or...?
oh... new previews review...www.previewsreview.com.
yeah, he mentions that comics journal review of the damon hurd book- which like... whoo-wee that was a review. i almost feel bad for the guy, except... the review was basically dead on. like, i'd read the comic before the review, you know, and i remember being somewhat unhappy with it or just ... i remember being bored, more than anything. but the specificity of that review just was ... blistering. it got me to pull it out and look at it again.
you know, i heard people in the shop talking about how hawkeye was promoting woman-beating in avengers comics, but its sort of still hard to believe. i should've spent the quarter. how did i miss that???
haha, look at butcher go off on wanted. fun. the troubling thing about those books is the ... faux-critic-proof-ness of them because if you hate them for being ... like, the sicko-power-fantasy thing in wanted makes my skin crawl even where its obvious inspirations- fight club, falling down, to an extent the filth- didn't make me feel that way at all. but then like... that "hey, look at me, i'm subversive" thing millar does, which is of course inherently contradictory, but ... its not critic-proof, its FAUX-critic-proof because lts like i can imagine some teenage kid on millarworld going "yeah, man, the squares can't handle it." which... i don't know, some teenager on millarworld needs that comic more than i do anyway, so i guess thats in a way valid... i don't know. i just don't like those comics. you and allen are both behind unfunnies; i glanced at it and ... i don't know. i'm not in the mood...
i wonder how that book's doing in australia. they LOVE funny animal comics. australians? that's their favorite thing. they got all those fucked up animals, i guess is why. if jack kirby had a fucking koala hanging out in his front yard, i guess we'd all be into funny animals too...
i'm happy his books are selling though. big writer doing big selling books for non-big two companies. even if i don't like the books, i really just don't know how that's not a good thing. the one company i LIKE though(image) is the one to miss out though... they've had some bad luck lately, the image...
haha, Germans don't like previews review. that's fucking hilarious... david hasslehoff and melting people in ovens are fine, but disrespect Batman and ...yeah, the both of you are into coup'de'tat? i haven't seen a jim lee comic in a while. i guess i'm picking up his azz books, but... yeah, i guess i'll give it a try, at least that one issue. i'm worried i'll be an issue in and then- the brubaker stuff i like isn't his superhero work so much as his other stuff, but i'm afraid i'll be an issue in and it'll be some creative team i'm totally disinterested in on some other issue...
holy shit, the first losers trade is only 9.99. fuck, like, that's nice for people who DIDN'T buy the issues but i'm kinda feeling a little fucked here. oh well, guess i'm not buying that monthly anymore. let me think... 6 issues at 2.50 a pop- yeah, i spent 5 or 6 bucks more than i had to??? for a worse package? uhhhh.... what?
oh, secret war's coming out? i guess bendis is psyched about the painter guy. i didn't see much to the stuff of his i saw, but maybe there's stuff i haven't. what's the idea? i still have no idea what the concept is. like, say what you will about beyonder but... wait, no, beyonder sucks. i don't know. what's the fucking concept??? i have no idea... they've been working on this thing FOREVER though. i remember hearing about this two years ago...
oh and they're doing a monthly thing now. like highlights of the month? wow... oooh, they're putting out cheaper copies of nausicaa? i've never read that stuff. christ, i remember miles flipping out like three or four years ago about that shit... how long have i been on this stupid fucking board??? goddamn...
oooooooooooooooh: " What’s nice [for Scott Morse] is that his next project is the Oni Press maxi-series EVEREST, a fully-painted, full-colour series written by Greg Rucka."
where do they talk about that??? i want to read that. everest? what a GREAT title... is it about everest? or...???? ooooooh.
oh and mouflon's finally collected. nice.
oh well, i think i can sleep now.
oh: http://www.bubbble.jp/ has a comic issue- #3, apparently? i forget how i found this. but yeah, links to a bunch of really interesting looking japanese people.
oh, i found them from shane glines pointing out http://www001.upp.so-net.ne.jp/ippei_gyoubu/menu/gallery.html. some of the stuff there, not all of it, but some of it did it for me...
but yeah, going to bubbble gets you to
http://www.na.rim.or.jp/%7Egaku/iwai.htm and
http://www.springroll.net/%7Ejiro/S3/ (cute!)
so... i like that...
