I want to write about this. So ... I will.
Thanks to Alan for sending this my way.
Boy: there's some interesting stuff in this thing. overall, not too shabby. not everyone rose to the occasion-- some of the web people are still not ready for primetime players, but... some interesting stuff in here.
e.g. Seth's Wimbledon Green: i'm not sure i'm down. he sure is using a thick brush line-- and i like that it's in the first person past tense. but... "Buttered toast." is that a punchline? Good title though. Boy, that's a good name for a character. But comic book collector comedy? Daring choice of targets...
and then the star of the show-- Dave Sim and Chester Brown's comic... which... am i unhip for finding this creepy? I half suspect its a joke on the audience, like "you think he's creepy? HERE'S SOME CREEPY FOR YOU, SQUARE." but... i half suspect that it's not a joke and it's just creepy. beats me...
Kagan McLeod or Chip Zdarsky-- still not sure why either isn't a huge name. Zdarsky's stuff is just very funny to me (at least I hope this was funny and not a tribute to his dead dog, but... I laughed either way, so fuck it). And McLeod just seems so comfortable with story...
Hump Day in Hogtown: who is Brian McLachlan? "hey, i pee in jars too" is badass. And Darwyn Cooke-- he can draw funny. It's a shame he's so drawn to superhero comics-- he's really better at just about anything else. best moment artwise in New Frontier for me was the boxing, so... I thought this was a very cute page.
And then my favorite thing: Jason Pultz and Comic Strip. who the fuck is this guy??? http://www.jasonpultz.com/ apparently he has a website. boy, I fucking thought he stole the comic from everybody in there, except maybe the Street ANgel guys who-- there's no shame losing to them. yeah, i grant you, its not exactly unique thematically-- the travails of whiny 20-something year old single middle class white boys, i think i've seen a comic about that before. but: i don't know. i was just into this comic... i thought it was very, very funny without being empty...
nice book... thanks again, alan...

J. bone's talented. it's a shame he can't find a project that features him well. well, Mutant Texas was decent-- that didn't catch on? i thought that'd catch on...
