One of my favorite pulp writers is Arthur O' Friel. He wrote fantastic
adventure novels and short stories set on the Amazon river - and he
actually had been an Amazon explorer. His stories are fast paced,
colorful and entirely convincing.I only discovered Friel's stories
about a year ago - so I consider myself very luck to have gotten an
opportunity to illustrate a new Friel book.
AMAZON NIGHTS is to be published this summer by WILDSIDE PRESS. It is
still a bit early to order - but they have a nice on-line store and you
might want to check out their extensive line of books.
I got my sketch approved for just a front cover - but when I was doing
the final painting I got the idea that a wrap-around cover would offer
the opportunity for a greater sense of depth under the water. So I went
for it (a nice feature of painting in the digital realm is that the size
of the canvas is whatever I want it to be).I think it turned out nice
- and the publisher loved it!
Oh - and I designed the logo and type (actually from a font I created in
honor of J. Allen St. John).
