THIS FRIDAY: Get a sneak peek of Oni’s up-coming mini-series Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things from critically acclaimed cartoonist Ted Naifeh (Gunwitch, Gloomcookie).
Ted Naifeh will be attending Comics and Da-Kind’s HouseParty and MiniComic Swap and showing preview pages and sketches from several of his latest comics projects, as well as offering a sneak preview of Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things.
And he’s not the only one bringing goodies.
Indy comic ultra-superstar Larry Young (Astronauts In Trouble writer and publisher of Brian Wood’s brilliant Channel Zero and Warren Ellis’ Come In Alone) promised to show up with an armload of comicbook things that will make knees weak, as well as plenty of Red Stripe beer. Kieron Dwyer, the comicbook madman who nearly brought the Starbucks empire to it’s knees and the controversial new artist on Avengers, and Rick Remender (Captain Dingleberry, Black Heart Billy) are reprinting a limited number of the original xerox version of the delightfully twisted LowestComicDenominator for your comic swapping pleasure. Mainstream comics go-to-guy Walden Wong will be showing off freshly inked pages from Superman Man of Steel to attendees, even before his editors at DC get the chance to see them. The always charming and sometimes caustic Kristen Brennan (Jitterbug Fantasia) will also be around, ranting about the future of the industry, with copies of After Kelly in hand. Also guaranteed in attendance is MiniComic maestro Tristan Crane, who will have the latest printing of How Loathsome to share. All these comic book megastars will be rubbing shoulders with numerous undiscovered creative juggernauts who will be bringing their own self-published goods, sketchbooks, scripts, zines and six-packs to share.
It should be a fun party!
The following is an incomplete (but glorious!) list of comic creators who live near my store. Nothing (cough, cough!) is implied by including their names here... although they are all certainly invited to attend:
Ed Brubaker
Adrian Tome
Dan Brereton
Erik Larsen
Trina Robbins
Dan Fogel
R. Crumb
Art Adams
Judd Winick
Dan Clowes
Steve Leialoha
John Heebink
Al Gordon
Films will also be shown starting at 7pm with the classic Logan’s Run and followed by the all-time badfilm great Flash Gordon at 10pm.
Everyone is invited to join the fun. Bring a favorite six pack to enjoy, any Mini and/or Self Published Comics you want to sell/swap/trade, sketchbooks, sculpts, scripts, or zines you want to show off. But most of all bring your love for comics with you, otherwise you’re going to be left out!
Parking is plentiful day or night, the 71 bus stops right out front and runs all night long.
